DESCRIPTION

Aoshima Island

Free

Aoshima is a tiny island with an area of around 4.4 Hectares, which is located next to the Nichinan Coast of Miyazaki and connected to the main land by the Yayoi Bridge. The whole island is surrounded by a unique and beautiful geological formation, which is known as the "Ogre's Washboard" because of its shapes.

A thick subtropical jungle covers most of the surface of Aoshima, featuring more than 400 subtropical species and a botanical garden. In the center of the jungle lies Aoshima Shrine, a small shrine painted in vivid colors which is frequently visited by couples since it's believed it brings good luck for marriage.
